Happy "Kappa"versary!!!

Ok I had written up a nice message and some how this computer has lost it so I am going to try this again.

A year ago today history was made on the campus of High Point University. The first historically black fraternity had finally reached HPU. I still remember the day like it was yesterday. I remember marching up and seeing all the students excited to see history in the making. The crowd was very live and excited about the show they was about to be given.

Today marks the one year anniversary since my probate show. I have been a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. for a year now. It has been one of the best years of my life. Fraternity life is more than I expected. Those who have known me, know that I never had any intention of joining any fraternity when I went to college. Fraternities were the last thing on my mind. Until my senior year when I had the chance to meet some of the brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. I knew then that this organization was for me.

During my spring break I spent it in NC visiting the brothers of my home chapter. I have to say I truly love the Nu Theta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The two times I have come back to visit they have embraced me with open arms and took me in as if I had never left. Now that's true BROTHERHOOD! Those that are in a greek letter organization will agree with me when I say ain't nothing like your home chapter. I have met brothers from all over and I still feel best when I am with my home chapter.

With that said, I have to give a special shout out to my LB's. Trey, Kirk, AI, Malcom, Derrick, James, AL, Ishmael, Mayshack, and Jeff. I love you boys more than words can express. We went through a lot together. I never would have guessed that our bond would be stronger than ever a year later. You all know that no matter what you all can always count on me for anything and I will always have y'alls back. Being at HPU for spring break truly made me miss my LB's. I wish I could of had at least one full year of undergrad just so I could kick it with them more. Cause when we all get together it's always good times. If only I could stand to live closer to NC then I would be there with them once I graduated, but my career is taking me in a different direction. Most of all I want to congratulate you all for making it a year in the bond. We will hopefully get to celebrate it all soon. If we could only get us all in the same place at the same time. During my stay at HPU my LB's looked out for me. I stayed with my front for over a week and he never once complained. And to top things off my LB's wanted me to stay longer so they convinced me to miss my flight for last Thursday and they drove me back to school on Sunday. Now that's true BROTHERHOOD. I never would have guessed in a million years that I would have 10 brothers that I could count on for anything. I hope we continue to remain this close throughout the years and I look forward to celebrating many more "Kappa"versaries with you all. (I hope you all are reading this!) I love you guys and if you ever need anything don't hesitate to call.

A few things on my mind

So on my way to work on Monday I grab the Latern, it's the school newspaper at The Ohio State University, and was shocked to see a picture of Sen. John McCain with the headline that he will be the spring commencement speaker. I have no ill feeling towards this man, but last year at my undergrad graduation I sat through a boring speech by Mayor Rudy Guiliani. I was hoping that I could avoid having to listen to another politician at my graduation. We all know the reason why Sen. McCain is speaking. He is going to be running for President again so what a perfect opportunity to speak in the infamous battleground state of Ohio. Of course they never admit that this is the reason, but you would be a fool to believe otherwise.

So last night I broke down and watched American Idol. Boy was that a bad mistake! In my opinion the best performance was given by Paris, but it wasn't because of her vocals. She seemed to be the only one who enjoyed performing her song and actually didn't do a half bad job. She performed Beyonce's "Work It Out". Paris had some good dance moves and I think could hold her own in the Hip Hop and R and B world. Besides her performance, no one else is even worth mentioning. They about put me to sleep. I don't know how these people made it to the top 10. I don't think I could put myself through the agony of watching the show to the finale. Good Luck Paris cause I don't think I could stand to see anyone else be crowned the winner. Maybe I picked a bad night to watch, but I am sure those that saw agree with my statements.

Moving on, I forgot to mention in my last post but why can't the clubs in Ohio be as krunk as the clubs in NC. Now I went to a party, whil e visiting NC and let me tell you. I truly miss the club atomsphere. They were krunk the whole night during all the krunk and B songs. They know how to play good club music in NC. The clubs in Ohio don't even compare. If only they had a clue. Just listening to the radio in NC I noticed a big difference. They aren't playing the same ole tired songs that have been out for two/three months. Ohio Clubs and Radio Stations need to step their game up.

Ok enough with my ranting, can I just say that I have the best LBs (Line Brothers) in the world. Dang I really did have a good time with them in NC. I promise my next post is devoted strictly to my fraternity...mainly my LB's because we will be turning 1 year old. That's right our crossing anniversary is coming up later this week. A special post will be put up for it.

Is anyone else out their addicted to Facebook?!?! Well let me be the first to admit that I am. I have been told by numerous people that I change my picture way too much. So I am going to keep my picture the same at least for the next two weeks or maybe longer. Yes it's going to be hard cause I wanna change it nwo but I am going to show everyone that I don't have to change my pic every week/day. I gotta start winging myself off of this addiction because I can't be at work checking facebook. I don't think my future employer would like me sitting around and messin on facebook. So by the end of July I plan on cutting back significantly the amount of time that I am on facebook. I don't know how I will do it but i will make it work.

I need to find an apartment by June 1st and I have yet to do that! :( I gotta get a move on it!

Spring Break 2006

Well my final Spring Break has come and gone. For those who don't know, I went back to North Carolina to visit my undergrad friends and fraternity brothers. The break overrall was a great break. The weather wasn't the best, but I was with people I love hanging out with so that makes it all better.

I left on Thursday, March 16 to go. I bought a flight that left at 6am! Yeah I don't think i will ever do that again. Let me tell you the airport was packed with people when I got there. I guess a lot of people travel early. I thought for sure the airport would be empty. Well my flights went well and I was in NC by 10am.

After my front picked me up from the airport I went and ate lunch, talked to some old friends, and surprised some people with my appearance in NC. (I didn't tell very many people I was coming.) I, of course, spent most of my break chillin with my fraternity brothers. let me tell you it was good. We went down to Durham my first weekend there to visit one of my line brothers. It was great seeing him again. Mostly all my LBs were there. When we all get together it's always a good time. Mother Ifedi cooked us a great meal one night. (Mother Ifedi is another one of my LB's mother). Let me tell you that food was great. Spaghetti, salad and garlic bread. Yummy! After spending a great weekend in Durham it was back to High Point to relax.

We didn't really go out much, but we were clowning around every night. I had so much fun that I let my LB's talk me into stayin in NC until yesterday! I couldn't believe I actually let them talk me into that. I am definitely glad that I did stay. I got to hang out some more with my fraternity brothers and I saw a probate show. I really like probate shows. (No matter what organization is probating.) It was actually another chapter of my fraternity that probated so of course that was a good show. I have to say though, my chapter has been making themselves known throughout our province. It's great seein people that actually know who are chapter is. I am very proud of the work my chapter has done to make our chapter known throughout NC.

Yesterday was the big road trip back to Columbus. The trip took about 6 and a half hours. Not to bad. I was very shocked that my LB's offered to take me back to Ohio. When they offered I had to accept the offer. I don't get to hang out with my LB's as much as I would like to so I enjoy the time that I do get to hang out with them. I was orginally supposed to return to Columbus on Thursday. That was the day of my flight. Well of course after a talkin with my LB's they convinced me to stay. Now I usually would never do such a thing, but you know it was my last spring break and I wasn't going to be doing anything in Columbus. So I decided to stay in NC.

Overrall spring break was great. I got a lot of rest and relaxation. If you look below this post you can see some pictures that I took while on break. I will have another post in the next couple of days about my fraternity. So make sure you check back for that.

Until then I am America's Nightmare...

Melrose Place

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Lxjv-mmAvhU

I don't know if you all have discovered the site Youtube.com but it's great. You can find clips on all kinds of things. I am really enjoying this site. You should check it out if you get a chance.

Well while browsing through the site I came across some clips from my one of my favorite shows of all time. Melrose Place. yes I was addicted to this show when it was on the air. I began watching it in like the middle of the first season and didn't miss an episode after that. I think I had my whole family addicted to this show. The link above is a clip from when Kimberly(Marcia Cross) blew up the apartment building that everyone lived in. It was the beginning scene of Season 4. The season finale of season 3 ended with everyone wondering if Kimberly was going to set off the bomb. Michael(Thomas Calabro spelling on his name might be wrong) and Sydney(Laura Leighton) had discovered that Kimberly was going to blow the building up and was trying to get everyone out. They thought they had knocked Kimberly out in the basement, but of course they didn't get her good enough cause she rises and then....well you have to watch the video clip to see the explosive end. Season 3 had a lot of drama and excitement. In my opinion it was definitely the best season of the series. Check out the clip if you get a chance.

Well I am on Spring Break now and this is for sure to be my last post until I get back so enjoy.

Stick a Fork in ME!!

Well it's been a crazy week or so since the last time I blogged. Let's see. Where to begin...Let's start with last Thursday. We had dinner again at Millie's to celebrate Rhea's birthday. It was great of course. When we all get together we manage to have a good time. Many laughs.

On Friday I finally went to one of my fraternity's parties this quarter. The last one of the quarter though, but at least I made it out. I had the best time though. I really needed that night out to drink and just dance. And so why did I dance with someone's MOM! Yes you read that right. I danced with someone's mom. This lady had to be in her late 40s early 50s. Why her daughter brought her to the club with her, I don' t know or understand. That woman danced with me for like 6 or 7 songs straight. I was like damn is she ever gonna stop. Note to everyone reading this...It's not cool to bring your mom to the club! Leave her at homed!

Oh year earlier Friday they had a Party Walk Competition. Let me say that I love party walking. It's great seeing all the different greeks show their stuff. All of the Divine 9 participated except for AKAs and Kappas. I am not sure where the AKAs were. It would have been nice to see them there, but I guess since there chapter is suspended at OSU they won't be around until they return from suspension. Unfortunately my frat didn't participate, but it's all good there was a couple of us in attendence. I think the most outrageous thing of the night was the Ques. Now we all know that the Ques have a reputation of being crazy and wild. Well these Ques decided to wear thongs. Two of them stripped down to them and did their little party walk in the thong. But that's not it. While doing their thing they jumped on to females in the crowd grinding on them and all. I thought I was going to throw up! It was funny seein people run when they saw the Ques looking for their next victim. Those were the craziest Ques I had ever seen. More power to them for doing their thing. Each organization did an awesome job with their party walks. I was very impressed by all. I can't wait to see a step show.

Well I know all of you watched the finale of Flava of Love last night! Poor Hoopz and New York. Flava has sex with and dumps New York. I really thought she was going to win. Oh well I guess now she can pursue her acting career. Poor Hoopz. You are too fine to be with Flava Flav. I mean he is old enough to be your father! I know that relationship will not last. And to prove how tacky Flava is he gives Hoopz her own fronts or grill whatever you want to call it. I thought oh my gosh, this guy is really unbelieveable. I wish those two the best of luck. But of course the season wouldn't be complete without a reunion show! I can't wait cause it looks like New York is going to be acting a fool! I am really going to miss this show :(

Well finally this quarter is officially over for myself. I finished my last exam this morning! It feels great being done with this quarter. It has definitely flown by. I get two weeks fo relaxing for spring break. I need this break. It's my last spring break. Cause next year at this time I will be working in busy season and won't even have time to think about a spring break. Well I am not sure if I will update anymore until after spring break. If not enjoy the next two weeks cause i am sure I will.

Oh yeah I am so upset with Desperate Housewives. Is Alfre Woodard still apart of the show? I mean we haven't seen her character in two episodes. They have definitley wasted this talented actress. I, also, don't understand why they are now trying to tie this season into last season. I mean come on it's time to move on and start some new storylines. I am tired of dealing with Zack and Paul Young. If they are going to stay in Wisteria Lane give them some other problems ro something. But with all the complaining I do have to give a shout out to Marcia Cross! She is one of the best actresses I have seen. I loved her when she was crazy Kimberly Shaw on Melrose Place and I am loving her as Bree on DH! In my opinion she is truly the star of the show. My favorite line of the night was of course said by her "The opposite of love is not hate it's indifference. The fact that you hate me means that you still care!" Man she nailed that lined right on the head when scolding her son. Those two play well off each other. At first I didn't liek the alcoholism storyline, but it is growing on me. She needs to get an Emmy for this season cause she is definitely they only thing that keeps me watching this show!

The Oscars

Okay so I sat thru the 3 and a half telecast of this show. Yeah i don't understand why I bore myself with it but I thought I might see something that I liked. Which I did! 3-6 Mafia won an Oscar last night for "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp". I was very excited for them. I didn't expect them to win, and the rest of America didn't either, but I really do like the song. There performance was great. Did anyone know that Taraji P. Henson could sing? I was truly amazed at her vocal ability. She did her thing especially with that high note at the end of the song. My mouth must have hit the floor after the performance. I just wanna say congrats again to 3-6 Mafia. I now feel obligated to go out and buy Hustle and Flow since I haven't seen the movie. Maybe this week when I get my tax refund I will go out and buy it.

Congrats also to the cast and crew of Crash for winning Best Picture. I have yet to see the movie, but I have heard nothing but good things about the movie. That's also is a must buy when I get the the refund this week.

Overrall the telecast was okay. Nothing really exciting. You pretty much knew who all the winners were going to be. I was hoping Felecity Huffman and Terrance Howard would upset Reese Witherspoon and who ever that guy was that won for best actor.

Has anyone heard that Terrance Howard now doesn't consider himself black? I read on some site on the internet that he pulling a Tiger Woods on us. If so shame on him. I know that he is actually mixed with something, but dang you gonna disown all the people who have supported you before you became the big star that you are now? I hate when people do that, but you know how that goes.

I am going to end this probably with something that's not politically correct but oh well it's how I truly feel. I hope next year we can get more Black actors and actresses nominated cause we have some good films that come out and it's a shame that a lot of them are overlooked. I ain't talking about nominating Denzel, Jamie, or Halle. How about some new blood. There are plenty of talented Black actors and actresses.

Well I am America's Nightmare...

Rosewood

So on Friday night I was able to finish watching Rosewood. I have to say this definitely ranks as one of my favorite movies. This movie definitely fueled many emotions inside of myself. It's amazing the things African-Americans had to go through. My eyes watered up as I watched the angry white men burn down the town and kill the black residents. To think this is such an important part of American History and I had never known about this happening to blacks. From our discussion after the movie, this happened to many black communities. This is stuff I had no idea happened. Surprisingly, the residents of Rosewood were able to get reparations from this tramatic experience they had to go through. I think I am going to look up some about these events that happened to other communities. I feel like this is an important part of American History that I have never been exposed to. The textbooks do a very good job at hiding all these kinds of experiences in the books. I definitely woud recommend this movie to everyone. Expecially my fellow black people. We need to start educating ourselves with these important events that happened in our familie's past. We need to go to our grandparents and their brothers and sisters and ask them about the things they experienced growing up. Your history should be very important to you. It's one thing that I am going to try and do. I wanna know about my family's history and all that they went through. The most I know about my mom's family is that they migrated to my hometown of Middletown, Ohio from Uniontown, Alabama when my grandmother was a little girl. I have never really asked why they all migrated North. I am assuming it was for the jobs. I plan on having a conversation with my grandma as soon as possible since she is my only living grandparent left.
