Religulous...A Must See

I know I will probably ruffle some feathers with this post so if you have comments please feel free to give them to me. This weekend I had the privilege to see Bill Maher's new documentary, Religulous. Now I have had my own battle with religion over the years, but that isn't the point of this post. This is to get you all to go out there and see this documentary.

Do you all remember those stories we were told as kids about Jonah and the whale, Noah's arc, and the Virgin Mary? Yeah I am sure you do. Now let's change the names of those people in the stories. If we did that and told that story to any rational human being they would think we were crazy! So why do we believe the story that's in the Bible. It sounds ridiculous and just possibly couldn't happen. NO way possible. I know many of you will say it's true because it's in the Bible. You have been brain washed to believe this. Yes brainwashed! Think about it.

Bill Maher does a good job in the documentary of looking at all types of religion. Christianity, Judaism, and Buddhism and whatever other religion there is out there. He looks at quite a few of them. What most are afraid to admit is that all of them have a lot more similarities than differences. Some of these different religions hate each others. Muslims hate Christians....Christians hate Muslims. What the hell. It's all because of a few minor differences.

In the Bible it doesn't say anything about being gay is a sin, but every Christian will swear up and down that it is the ultimate sin. In the Bible they don't mention Child abuse at all, but we as well see that as a horrible thing to do. Why did God or bet yet King James not put this in the Bible. Is it because those sins aren't that important? Hell, I don't know. I am asking you people who cling to religion as the end all be all. If you want to sit and talk about this we can. Please explain to me why this is the case.

Now at different points in my life I was a very religious person. I definitely am not at this point in my life. I may return to it and I may not. When I went to college I began to think about religion and all the pain and misery it was bringing me. When I was growing up I never thought I could do enough to make God proud of me. I struggled with why I was putting myself through this. When I was about 11 or 12 I was I taking every dime that I got and giving my penny to the church. I had to make sure I gave them my 10%. I was scared of what would happen if I didn't. Why was a preacher telling me that I was doing wrong if I didn't give my 10% as an 11 year old? Doesn't that seem wrong to you?

My mom's pastor asked the entire church to each give the church 95 dollars to celebrate 95 year anniversary of our church. Now let's think about this. The people who attend this church are low income to low middle class families. They are struggling to put food on the table, pay for gas, and working two jobs just to make ends meet. why would a pastor suggest this to them. It doesn't make sense to me when he knows they can't afford to do that. Oh yeah the pastor of course is driving a nice car, living in a great house, nice robe and suits that is all being paid for by the church.

I wasn't going to put politics in this but think about how religion affects our politics. President Bush considers himself a very religious person and look how he and the Republican party has manipulated those who aren't smart enough to see through there bogus religious mess. John McCain claims to be a very religious person but I bet you didn't know he doesn't attend church very often, but many will claim to want to vote for him because he is a Christian and follows god closely. Wake up people. The Republican and Democratic parties are liars about religion. Most politicians will say and do whatever is necessary to win the election. When McCain didn't think the religious right where good enough for him in 2000 he called them evil and dishonest people. Now 8 years later, he needs them to win the election so they are all good people now. McCain realized he couldn't become President without them. Wake up America!

I know this post was real scattered brain. I am sorry I was just typing my thoughts as they came in my head. I know many will dislike my position on this. I do encourage all of you to go see Religulous. I will definitely open up your eyes to many of things that are happening with religion.

I am America's Nightmare...
