Black History Month? Did you forget too...
Well February 2009 has almost come and gone and I was sitting here watching TV thinking...dang it's Black History Month. Damn I almost forgot about it because it seems no one has even mentioned it. I spent a couple hours watching BET Saturday and never once saw a commercial for Black History Month. Not surprising considering the that it's BET. There has been nothing on any other TV stations except for VH1 who is doing some special five night event where that look back at different decades and black people. Yep that's all.
I remember growing up and we always knew it was Black History Month. There were many events and history lessons in school for us. Now as an adult you don't see anything. With there being many organizations geared towards African-Americans you would think there would be something. I guess Black History Month doesn't really matter anymore. Our President is black and I guess we have made it to the promised land. Yes, I am being very sarcastic. Come on we have got to do better. I am to blame as well. I barely even remembered that it was Black History Month. I feel bad. I guess this recession has our minds in other places.
With all the above stated take a moment this week and just think how Black History has affected America. With Black people there wouldn't be a lot of things that we take for granted. The traffic light and hair care products are just a couple things that we owe to African-Americans. This week I pledge to do something to celebrate Black History Month. Hopefully you will follow me and do the same.
I am America's Nightmare...
